Purple fireworks

Looks like this shot is the final winner of my recent posting of three nearly identical shots. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I recently shot some photos handheld of a fireworks display during the mooncake festival in Sepang (that's a small town near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport) and I posted 3 shots from that for anyone to post and decide which is the best. This one finally won out with er...a whopping 3 comments....

Shark bait

Another shot from the viewing tunnel at the Aquaria. I don't know about you, but I find aquariums fascinating and even though the Aquaria is not that big, it still has lots for me to see. I spent a lot of time waiting for the shark and fishes to get into JUST the right position here.

All teeth

My best shot of the Sand Tiger Shark (Carcharias taurus) in Aquaria. This big feller is about 6feet long and swimming really close to the viewing tunnel, so I had ample opportunity to really study it up close. I've got a major fascination and fear of sharks, no thanks to watching Jaws as a kid. :(

Shark, stage left

A view from the tunnel in the Aquaria. A Nurse shark on the left I think.

Chaos Theory

I like the chaos created in this shot taken at the Aquaria, a new aquarium at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Nikon D70, AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm f/4 Posted by Picasa

Touch-me-not

Another closeup of poison dart frogs. Slightly cropped. NikoN D70, AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 Posted by Picasa

Darting frog

This little frog is one of the (in)famous poison dart frogs -- though it's no bigger than my thumb, it's so poisonous that just touching it will kill you. Notice the little cricket at the top right-hand corner -- it's gonna get eaten in a moment or two.

Cherry? Not quite

Good enough to eat...fruit from one of my dad's plants. It's actually about the size of a cherry and can be eaten but quite sour. Nikon D70, AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 Posted by Picasa

Merdeka Day

Independance Day fireworks, Putrajaya, Malaysia. Shooting fireworks is always a trial and error process, but generally, the trick is to open the shutter for only a few seconds and not to have TOO many bursts, otherwise it'll all be a bright mess.

Red Turtles

A classic nonya-style dessert called "ang-koo", which is directly translated as "red turtle". No it's not made of turtle -- it's got a sweet bean filling. Here used as an offering to the dead during the lead up to the Hungry Ghosts Festival. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
