Crazy horses

I always think merry-go-rounds are a little bit sinister, don't you? Nikon D70, AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm f/4 Posted by Picasa

Wall of bears

I've never seen so many bears in one place before. At least not so many large ones. Nikon D70, AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm f/4 Posted by Picasa

The Challenger

With the funfair in town, I managed to shoot a few pictures I always wanted to try out. Most of these shots were taken at something like 6secs at f/22. Nikon D70, AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm f/4. Posted by Picasa

Not an orchid..I think

Dontcha just love macro? I've always been fascinated by macro images -- it's just looking at the world in a way we normally wouldn't be able to with the naked eye. I remember way back when I was using a Nikon F-301 I almost always had my dad's Tamron SP90 f/2.5 macro lens (now it's in latest incarnation here) attached to it.

Even now, with my Nikon D70, I have the excellent AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 attached to it most of the time. Don't think a macro lens is just for shooting closeups -- a 60mm (equivalent to the 90mm due to the 1.5x smaller sensor of DSLRs compared to 35mm film) is also excellent for taking head-and-shoulder portraits because it gives the most flattering perspective for humans. A well-made Macro lens is incredibly sharp and an excellent choice for low-light photography as well, thanks to it's very bright maximum aperture. Posted by Picasa

Lightning

I just realised I've never posted this shot before. This is a mosque at Jalan Duta -- my cousin Jason and I chased the storm and shot off a few images of this mosque before the rain. This was the most successful of a series of images that I took, all with the camera locked down on a tripod of course. The lightning is real, btw. Fuji S2Pro, 8secs at f/22. Posted by Picasa

Sparklers

In keeping with the fireworks theme, here's a shot I took of my niece during Chinese New Year a while back. The camera was locked down on a tripod and a bit of rear-curtain sync flash was applied at the end of the exposure. Fuji S2Pro, exposure set to 6secs at f/11 Posted by Picasa

Home is where the heart is

A shot of my house I took a while back. This is a panoramic made from stitching 3 shots that I just shot handheld. Can't remember the exposure now. Nikon D70, AF Nikkor 28-105mm Posted by Picasa

Purple fireworks

Looks like this shot is the final winner of my recent posting of three nearly identical shots. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, I recently shot some photos handheld of a fireworks display during the mooncake festival in Sepang (that's a small town near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport) and I posted 3 shots from that for anyone to post and decide which is the best. This one finally won out with er...a whopping 3 comments....

Shark bait

Another shot from the viewing tunnel at the Aquaria. I don't know about you, but I find aquariums fascinating and even though the Aquaria is not that big, it still has lots for me to see. I spent a lot of time waiting for the shark and fishes to get into JUST the right position here.

All teeth

My best shot of the Sand Tiger Shark (Carcharias taurus) in Aquaria. This big feller is about 6feet long and swimming really close to the viewing tunnel, so I had ample opportunity to really study it up close. I've got a major fascination and fear of sharks, no thanks to watching Jaws as a kid. :(

Shark, stage left

Chaos Theory

I like the chaos created in this shot taken at the Aquaria, a new aquarium at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Nikon D70, AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm f/4 Posted by Picasa

Touch-me-not

Another closeup of poison dart frogs. Slightly cropped. NikoN D70, AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 Posted by Picasa

Darting frog

This little frog is one of the (in)famous poison dart frogs -- though it's no bigger than my thumb, it's so poisonous that just touching it will kill you. Notice the little cricket at the top right-hand corner -- it's gonna get eaten in a moment or two.

Cherry? Not quite

Good enough to eat...fruit from one of my dad's plants. It's actually about the size of a cherry and can be eaten but quite sour. Nikon D70, AF Micro-Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 Posted by Picasa

Merdeka Day

Independance Day fireworks, Putrajaya, Malaysia. Shooting fireworks is always a trial and error process, but generally, the trick is to open the shutter for only a few seconds and not to have TOO many bursts, otherwise it'll all be a bright mess.
